Found in Assam, the eastern Himalayas, Sikkim, China, Myanamar, Thailand and Vietnam in evergreen forests on open banks at elevations of 500 to 1600 meters as a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with a pseudobulbs and a petiolate leaf that and blooms on a basal tall, stout, 3 to 5' [90 to 150 cm] long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence occuring in the late winter and spring with simultaneously opening flowers.
