Found in central coastal Brazil in montane rainforests at elevations of 50 to 1000 meters as a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with conical, four sided pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, plicate, dark green elliptical-ellongate, acuminate leaf that blooms on a mostly erect, 5 to 8 flowered, 12" [30 cm] long, racemose inflorescence arising on a mature pseudobulb, with waxy, fragrant or not, long-lived flowers that do not open well occuring in the late summer and fall in Brazil.
