Found in Mexico at elevations of 1000 to 2000 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial, at times occuring in lava fields or open deciduous forests in clumps of coarse grass in well drained loamy soils with brownish green corms carrying a few plicate, narrowly oblong-elliptic leaves that blooms in the spring on a to 3' long, few flowered inflorescence..
