Found in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica and Panama on rocky or grassy hillsides in oak or oak-pine forests at elevations of 1200 to 2500 meters with small pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, plicate, folded, narrowly to broadly lanceolate, long, acuminate leaves where it blooms in the fall and winter on a basal, 3 1/2' [105 cm] long, 2 to 12 flowered racemose inflorescence with long-lived flowers
