Found from DF and Oaxaca states of Mexico in lavafields at elevations of 1780 to 2700 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing, deciduous terrestrial with semihorizontal to horizontal, conic-subglobose, whitish to brown corms giving rise to 2 to 3, plicate, only 2 present at flowering, elliptic, acute, gradually narrowing below intothe clasping base leaves that bloomsin the late spring and early summer on an erect, scapose, 13.2 to 26.4" [33 to 66 cm] long, racemose, 3 to 8 flowered inflorescence with subulate, acuminate floral bracts and carrying ascending flowers.
