Found from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, Surinam, Fr Guiana, Guyana, Venezuela, Colombia and northern Brazil in open meadows at elevations of 250 to 1320 meters as a miniature sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with thick, glabrous roots giving rise to a slnder stem carrying few fugaceosu leaves that blooms in the later spring on an erect, cylindrical, congested, many flowered inflorescence enveloped by various, tubular, acuminate bracts.
