Found in Ivory Coast, Liberia, Siera Leone, Cameroon and Kenya in lower montane forests at elevations around 900 to 1200 meters and in Kenya around 2100 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte or lithophyte with .4 to 1.2" [1 to 3 cm] between each ovoid to narrowly conical, slightly compressed, 4 to 6 angled pseudobulbs carrying 2, apical, linear-lanceolate, coriaceous, thick, rounded to obtuse, apically bidentate leaves that blooms on an erect, 2 to 5" [5 to 12.5 cm] long, 6 to 22 flowered, slightly fractiflex, rather lax, racmose inflorescence many simultaneously opening flowers
The orchid in the photo is the subspecies joyceae found only in Kenya and differs from the type in larger flowers, occurs at higher elevations and is an epiphyte only.
