Common Name Day's Bulbophyllum [English Orchid Enthusiast 1800's]
Flower Size 1 1/2" [2 to 3 cm]
Found in India, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand semi-deciduous and deciduous dry lowland forests and savana-like woodlands at elevations of sealevel to 700 to 1300 meters as a miniature sized, cool to hot growing, unifoliate epihyte of wet, shadier, cooler areas with a creeping rhizome, globose to ovoid, channeled pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, oblong, coriaceous leaf that is deep green above and purple below that blooms in the spring and summer on a basal, very short, 2 to 5 flowered inflorescence with semi-nodding, foul smelling flowers held below the leaves next to the rhizome. This plant needs water lots of it as well as deep shade, in a wood basket with bark and covered with sphagnum moss.
