Found in Burundia, Zaire, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Transvaal South Africa and Madagascar in dry woodlands and evergreen forests at elevations of 250 to 1700 meters as a miniature sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with close set, squat, ovoid, wrinkled, ridged, yellow to reddish pseduobulbs carrying 2 apical, fleshy, broadly elliptic, apically bilobed leaves that blooms in the fall on a basal, 2 to 4" [5 to 10 cm], swollen, purple, few flowered, racemose inflorescence
