SECTION Brachypus Schlechter 1913

Lectotype: Bulbophyllum maxillarioides Schltr. (designated by van Royen 1979). SYNONYMS = section Papulipetalum Schltr. 1913;

Characterized by medium sized flowers on single flowered infloescence that seldom exceed the pseudobulbs in height. The pseduopbulbs can be well developed or not. The flowers can have long papillae on the petal apex or be small, undivided and short haired and are small in comparison to the sepals which can be equal or can have the laterals longer. The lip is small, thick and fleshy to glabrous and often shorter but seldom longer than the column which has sublate stelida and a narrow foot.
