Common Name The Pendant Inflorescence Bulbophyllum

Flower Size .6" [1.5 cm]

Found in Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and the Philippines in low and open forests at elevations of 300 to 1100 meters as a medium sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte with 1 to 1.2" [2 to 3 cm] between each discoid, not flattened pseudobulb carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptic to ovate, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a pendant, 10 to 20" [25 to 50 cm] long, 50 to 200 flowered inflorescence with ovate floral bracts and sweetly fragrant flowers.

"Unmistakable, even without flowers, because of the clustered pseudobulbs, the persistent fibres of the rhizome scales, and the tufts of erect catch-roots. Well-grown, flowering plants can be quite spectacular. Some variability occurs in the stelidia; these are porrect in some specimens (e.g. the type of B. jarense) but strongly curved downwards in others (e.g. the type of B. macrophyllum)."
