Common Name Rose Marie's Bulbophyllum

Flower Size .15" [3 mm]

Found in Kerala India as a mini-miniature sized epiphyte with ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptic, obtuse leaf that blooms in the summer on an erect, 4" [10 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence and carries fruity scented flowers.

This new species was described from Idukki and Kannur districts. It is related to Bulbophyllum tridentatum Par. ex J.D. Hook. of Burma and Thailand but different in having erect non-geotropic leaves, truncate-angulate, acute dorsal sepal, broad-based, oblique falcate-striate petals and yellow lip with brown papillae throughout except the median furrow. The pleasant fruity smell of this species is very characteristic.
