This small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial species is from Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia at elevations of 10 to 250 meters and favours open forest and woodland with well-drained soil where it is widespread and common, growing in loose colonies with a single leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, 8 to 16" [20 to 40 cm] long, 1 to 2 flowered inflorescence and is thought to be pollinated by pseudo-copulation perpetrated by the male thynnid wasp.
