Common Name King of the Cattleyas - In Moyobamba, Peru "Golondrina" [swallow]

A Colombian and Peruvian epiphytic species in wet montane forests high on exposed tree trunks at elevations around 1350 meters that grows cool to warm and has woody, short, branching rhizome with crowded, slightly flattened, fusiform-clavate, unifoliate pseudobulbs subtended by 5 to 6 scarious sheaths and a single, apical, elliptic-oblong or oblong, obtuse toshortly acute, stiffly coriaceous, yellow green leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a terminal, erect, subumbellate, 6" [15 cm] long, yet shorter than the leaves, loosely few to several [3 to 8] flowered, inflorescence subtended by a large basal green sheath with fragrant, color variable flowers and arising on a newly maturing pseudobulb.
