SECTION Coelochilus Schlechter 1913

Characterized by having flowers with a footless to, nearly so column, a lip that is more or less narrower, with the base usually ending in 2 short auricles that are convex-elliptical above so concave below, linguiforme to cylindrical in shape. The sepals are reflexed in the day and closed by night, the petals are always small and the peduncle of the inflorescence is generally slender but rarely shortened and always carry a single flower. Mostly the labellum is immovably attached to the base of the column but a movable lip is possible but not common.
