Found in Beliza, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Fr Guiana, Surinam, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia in wet lowland forests at elevations of sea level to 500 meters as a miniature to small sized, hot growing epiphyte with a short rhizome giving rise to small, flattened, round pseudobulbs enveloped basally by 2 to several, distichous, imbricate, leafless and leaf bearing sheaths and carrying a single apical, erect, coriaceous, obliquely bilobed apically, lanceolate, gradually conduplicate below into the base leaf that blooms in the fall on a lateral, axillary, racemose, many flowered, arching to pendant, to 3.6" [9 cm] long inflroescence with resupinate flowers.
