Found from Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, western Himalayas, China, Korea, Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan, Myanamar, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Borneo, Java Moluccas, Sulawesi, Sumatra and New Guinea in broad-leafed forests at elevations of 200 to 2300 meters as a medium sized, hot to warm growing lithophyte on limestone outcroppings and cliffs or terrestrial in damp humus filled crevasses or in rich soils dampened by mists and splash along steep watercourses with fusiform, fleshy pseudobulbs carrying 3 to 6 plicate, thin-textured, elliptic, acute, petiolate leaves which blooms on a erect, to more than 12" [to more than 30 cm] long, with a few [5 to 6] distantly spaced, long-lasting, fragrant flowers occuring in the spring and summer.
