Found in Shanxi, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces of China and Japan in forests or on grassy slopes at elevations of 1100 to 2500 meters as a small sized, cold growing terrestrial with an erect, pubescent stem with several sheaths and carrying 3 to 4, elliptic to ovate-lanceolate, slightly pubescent to glabrous at the dorsal base leaves that blooms in the spring and early summer on an erect, terminal, pubescent, 1 to rarely 3 flowered inflorescence with leaf-like, pilose veined bracts
