Cyrtochilum mendax (Rchb.f.) Kraenzl. 1917 SECTION Eucyrtochilum Kranzlin Photo by © Harry Zelenko and The Swiss Orchid Foundation at the Jany Renz Herbaria
Common Name The Deceiving Cyrtochilum
Flower Size 2.4" [6 cm]
Found in Colombia and Ecuador at elevations of 1600 to 2200 meters as a cool to cold growing epiphyte that blooms in the summer on an axillary, wiry, paniculate, few flowered branches, to 20" [50 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence.
CAUTION I am not sure of this determination so please use with caution. It does not agree even closely with Kranzlin's 1917 drawing so I have to be concerned. It is a match for what Dodson 2010 says is C mendax so we have a dilemma here until I can see Reichenbachs drawing or better yet his type.
Synonyms *Oncidium mendax Rchb.f. 1886
