Common Name The Many Leafed Cyrtopodium
Flower Size 1 to 1 3/4" [2.5 to 4 cm]
Found in Colombia and Paraiba to Santa Catarina states of Brazil as a large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial in sandy soils or on rocks at elevations of sealevel to 1100 meters with elongate, spindle-shaped, to 2' [60 cm] tall pseudobulbs carrying several , deciduous, long, narrow leaves and blooms on a basal, branched, 2' to 4'8" [60cm to 1.5 meters ] long, many flowered inflorescence with fragrant, long-lasting flower occuring in the spring to early summer..
The ensitu shots were taken in Boia Ceia', Sao Paulo State, Brazil at 1 meter in elevation, 20 yards away from the ocean in the shortest of the brush as the sand gives way to the first hardwood hammock. It had sand more than soil, with heavy leaf litter from sea grapes and was moderately shaded by a leafy bush. Several were found in the area all in exactly the same conditions. Wet springs to dry falls, yet still, there is high humidity year round with mists and light fogs common in the early morning hours. Being as the ocean is so close and the surf can be high, and the elevation is low [1 meter], these orchids must have some salt tolerance.
