Found in Russia, Japan Korea, China, and the Aluetian Islands of Alaska in moist open tundra, meadows and bogs at sealevel to 800 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2–5, blade often purple-spotted or suffused with purple leaves and flowering in the spring and summer on an erect, terminal, 10 to 16" [25 to 40 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, floral bracts the larger often suffused with purple, extending well beyond the flowers.
