Common Name The Grooved Leaf Dendrobium - The Onion Orchid - The Brown Tea Tree Orchid

Flower Size 1" [2 to 2.5 cm]

Found in Australia and New Guinea as a miniature, cool to hot growing epiphyte where it grows on the bark of the melaleuca tree [ a major pest tree in South Florida so cut one down and mount a Dendrobium ] at sealevel to 2500 ft. in altitude with fusiform, enveloped in sheaths, sulcate with age canes carrying 2 to 6, towards the apex, linear, subcylindrical, very fleshy, grooved on the upper side, acute leaves. They bloom from midwinter till mid spring on an erect to arcuate, 4 to 16" [10 to 40 cm]long, axillary, densely many flowered, racemose inflorescence arising from the nodes near the apex of each growth old and new, each with fragrant flowers that love high light, humidity and regular waterings till winter when it should be slowed down. This species is best mounteed on cork or tree fern and needs bright light and hot to warm temperatures with a dry winter.
