Found in the Mountains of New Guinea as a miniature, hot to cool growing epiphyte in rainforests, forest clearings and river banks at elevations of 100 to 1300 meters with ovoid to cylindrical pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 4, apical, slender, rough, twisted leaves that are purple beneath that blooms in the late winter and spring on a short inflorescence often hidden within the leaves but arising on leafed and leaflesss canes with a single, rarely 2, star-shaped flowers. A drier winter should be given but do not let the plant dry out completely and fertilizer should be eliminated until new growth is initiated in the spring.
