Common Name The Bare Dendrobium [refers to the deciduous habit]
Flower Size .6 to 1" [1.5 to 2.5 cm]
Found in the western Himalayas, Assam India, eastern Himalayas, Bhutan, Sikkim, Nepal and Thailand as a small sized, hot to warm growing epiphyte at the base of trees or in deforested areas as a lithophyte at elevations of 800 to 2200 meters with cylindrical, yellow stems covered by loose, funnel-shaped sheaths carrying thin-textured, lanceolate or oblong leaves that blooms on a pendant, 4 to 6" [10 to 15 cm] long, several to many [10 to 15] flowered inflorescence arising from the nodes near the apex of the cane with spidery flowers and occuring in the summer through fall. This species requires a distinct dry rest from water and fertilizer through the winter months and should be resumed with the onset of new growth in the spring.
