Common Name Harvey's Dendrobium [Irish Orchid Enthusiast 1800's and first to flower species]

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

A rare, small sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte on tree trunks and large branches from Yunnan province in China, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam at elevations of 1100 to 1700 meters with erect, spindle-shaped, deeply sulcate stems with 2 to 9, apical, deciduous, ovate-oblong, leathery leaves that needs a definite cooler, dry winter rest to help initiate blooming which occurs in February through April on an pendant, to 6" [15 cm] long, few to several flowered, racemose, lax inflorescence that arises from the nodes near the apex of older leafless canes with 2 to 9, fragrant flowers scented of honey. This Dendrobium should be mounted to best accommodate the wet-dry, high humidity, and bright light requirements of this species. The dry winter rest from water and fertilizer should begin at halloween and ciontinue until Valentine's Day to insure the best growth and blooming.
