Common Name Flat Pseudobulb Dendrobium

Flower Size to 1" [2.5 cm]

Found in Borneo and the Philippines as a miniature sized, hot growing epiphytic species found at elevations of 0 to 500 meters in dense humid forests near watercourses with very compressed, flattened pseudobulbs carrying a few, distichous elliptic-lanceolate leaves that blooms in the spring and again in the fall on a 1 1/2" [3.75 cm] long, erect, few [5] flowered, racemose inflorescence that arises from the nodes near the apex of leafed and leafless canes.

This species and D platigastrium are cited as synonyms but I have kept them separate at this time, please refer to the other species for more information. I feel that P platycaulon is confined to the Philippines and Borneo and has three raised keels in the throat of the lip, D platygastrium has several and is found in New Guinea, New Caledonia, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu

Synonyms Dendrobium platygastrium Rchb. f. 1878; Eurycaulis platycaulos (Rolfe) Fessel & Lückel 2002; Pedilonum platycaulon (Rolfe) Rauschert 1983
