This species is a small sized, cold to warm growing epiphyte that is found in Burma, Thailand, southwestern China, Laos and Vietnam in forests on tree trunks at elevations of 300 to 1500 meters with tufted, fusiform, sulcate, shiny purplish brown, stems carrying 1 to 4, subterminal, ligulate or oblong, thick, papery, dull green, acute leaves that blooms in the late winter and early spring on a very short, 1 to 4 flowered raceme with minute bracts and waxy, fragrant flowers that arises from the nodes near the apex of both leafed and leafless canes. A lessening of water and fertilizer should occur at the beginning of the winter but towards the end all water and fertilizer should be with held until new growths arise in the spring.
