Found in southern Yunnan province of China, northern Thailand, northwest India, Vietnam, northern Laos and Burma in dense forests on tree trunks at elevations of 1500 to 2600 meters as a miniature to medium sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte with slender, cylindrical canes carrying 4 to 8, narrowly linear, leathery leaves with the leaf sheaths having fine black hairs and blooms in the spring on a short inflorescence arising near the apex of leafless canes with 2 to 3 flowers.
