Diplocaulobium dichrotropis (Schltr.) A.D.Hawkes 1957 SECTION Goniobulbon
Plant and flower Photos by Dr Ed de Vogel © and the Orchids of New Guinea Website
Common Name The Forked Diplocaulobium [refers to the keel of the lip]
Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]
Found in New Guinea in montane forests at elevations around 800 meters as a mat-forming, miniature sized, hot growing epiphyte with quadrate, ovoid pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic, unequally bilobed apically leaf that blooms through the spring and summer on short, single flowered inflorescence and carrying short-lived flowers. This one grows with even year round hot conditions with partial sun and I have it mounted on tree fern. I received plant in 1999 and it survived the flood of Hurrine Wilma, it now covers all sides of the tree fern mount and blooms 4 to 6 times a year [maybe more as it only lasts a day and is easy to miss]. .
