Common Name The Scaly Dipodium In Australia - The Purple Hyacinth - The Blotched Hyacinth Orchid

Found as a large sized, cool to cold growing mycoheterotrophic, leafless terrestrial occuring in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia at elevations of 10 to 1100 meters in open forests and woodlands, drier ridges and river valleys and in coastal areas all in well drained soils with an erect stem that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, reddish brown, to 3' [to 100 cm] long, 9 to 60 flowered inflorescence.
