Found in Southernmost South Africa in areas of mild disturbance and Australia as a recent invasive weed at elevations of sea level to 2000 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect stem completely enveloped by linear-lanceolate, erect, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the spring on a terminal, cylindrical, long bracteate, many flowered inflorescence.
