Common Name Velez's Dracula [Colombian Orchid Nusrseryman's mother]

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

Found in Antioquia department of Colombia at elevations of 1900 to 2100 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with stout, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying an erect, thinly coriaceous, carinate, elliptical-oblanceolate, acute, narrowing below into the indistinct petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a horizontal to descending, 10" [25 cm] long, successively single, few flowered, racemose inflorescence with a tubular, much shorter than teh pedicel floral bract.

"Similar to Dracula simia but D veleziana is a larger palnt with broad leaves. The sepals are creamy white with brown suffusion behind the lip. The lips of both species are similar, shallowly concave with non-incurves margins but the latter with many more radiating veins." Luer 2005
