Found in Peru on steep embankments in drier regions at elevations of 1500 to 2500 meters as a giant sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial orchid with a stout, simple stem enveloped completely by imbricating tubular leaf sheaths and carrying numerous, distichous, linear-lanceolate, long acuminate, rigid, basally clasping leaves and blooms in the fall on a lateral from below the leaves, racemose, 3 1/2" [9 cm] long, densely several to many [10 to 14] flowered inflorescecncee carrying fleshy, nodding flowers
