Common Name The Waxen Flower Epigeneium - In China Tai Wan Hou Chun Lan

Flower Size 1" [2.5 cm]

This miniature sized, hot to cold growing epiphytic orchid is endemic to Taiwan in the central mountain range in broad leaved forests at elevations of 300 to 2400 meters with many-angled, creeping, obliquely ovate pseudobulbs carrying a single, terminal, coriaceous, oblong to ovate, dark green, lustrous leaf that blooms in the fall and winter on a terminal, short, .4 to 1" [1 to 2.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with short-lived, slightly fragrant, waxy flowers that is subtended by a brown basal sheath.

This species is often cited as synomonous with E sanseiense but there are many obvious visual differences in the photos that I have so I will leave them separate at this time until I can verify if the E sanseiense photos are correct.

Synonyms *Dendrobium nakaharaei Schlechter 1906
