Found in southern Peru and Bolivia on rock outcroppings at elevations around 1600 to 3250 meters as a medium to just large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, stout cane-like stem enveloped completely by leafbearing sheaths and carrying many basally clasping, narrowly elliptic, acute leaves that blooms in the spring on an erect then pendant, 6 to 10" [15 to 25 cm] long, racemose, many flowered inflorescence arising through a large conduplicate spathe
