Found in Guinea, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania Angola, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Natal and Transvall South Africa in dambos and open plateau grasslands and the miombo woodlands at elevations of 700 to 1350 meters as a medium to large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with subterranean, ovoid to ellipsoid, tuberous growths giving rise to 2 to 3, erect, linear, acuminate, plicate leaves that are absent or just arising at flowering that blooms in the late spring on a basal laxly few to many flowered inflorescence
