Found in Zaire, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana in open sandy grass plains at elevations around 1000 to 1400 meters as a small sized, cool growing terrestrial with subterranean, ovoid pseudobulbs with cat's claw like projections giving rise to usually 3, just appearing at flowering, linear, acuminate, grass-like leaves that blooms in the late spring and early summer on an erect, to 12" [30 cm] long, with 4 sheaths, lax, 2 to 10 flowered inflorescence with longer than the ovary, lanceolate, acuminate floral bracts carrying showy, pale to deep pink, uniformly mauve or mauve lined and flushed with purple flowers with a darker lip withh white fimbriae.
