Found in Burundi, Zaire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Natal, Transvaal, Oman, Saudia Arabia and Yemen as a robust medium to giant sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial in sandy soil and on rock outcroppings under bushes among thickets in hot dry areas at 500 to 1800 meters in elevation with ovoid to cylindrical, ribbed, greenish yellow pseudobulbs carrying 2 to 3, stiffly succulent, linear-elliptic, gray green leaves with a finely serrated edge which blooms in the spring, summer and fall on an erect, often branched, laxly 30 to 200 flowered inflorescence with fleshy, musky scented flowers.
