Common Name Richards' Eulophia [original cololector of species current]

Flower Size

Found in northern Zambia in brachystegia woodlands at elevations around 1500 meters as a small sized, cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a horizontal to ascending, cigar-shaped rhizome without roots or leaves blooming in the late fall and early winter on an erect, with numerous papery, broad sheaths, rather laxly to 10 flowered inflorscence carrying dull brownish cream, brown veined flowers with a dull cream lip with brown veins that do not open well.

Similar to E galeoloides and E epiphanoides but E richardsiae is a much smaller plant than the former and from both in having a smooth, rounded callus rather than a series of ridges as well as in the narrow stalk-like base to the tepals.
