Common Name The Boat-Shaped Gongora

Found in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru, this robust, medium sized, caespitose, epiphytic, hot to warm growing species occurs in wet montane forests at altitudes of 550 to 1200 meters with ovoid-pyriform, longitudinally sulcate, obtuse angled pseudobulb subtended by a few scarious, sheaths and carrying 2 apical, broadly oblanceolate, elliptic or oblong-elliptic, acuminate, plicate, leathery , stiff leaves that are conduplicate below into a channeled petiole which blooms on a basal, 16" [40 cm]long, pendulous, many [35 to 45] flowered infloresence arising on a mature pseudobulb as a new one appears with fragrant, long-lasting flowers occuring in the fall.
