Found in Japan, the Ryukyu Islands and Taiwan in montane forests in damp places at elevations of 400 to 1500 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with an erect, leafy below stem carrying either congested or distant, ovate to ovate-elliptic, to ovate lanceolate, either green with the midrib discolored or finely white reticulated, glabrous throughout, often with undulate margins, acute apically, rounded to cordate into the petiolate base leaves that blooms in the fall on an erect, 4 to 8" [10 to 20 cm] long, several flowered inflorescence with the flowers held in a cylindrical raceme .
