Found in Oaxaca State of Mexico in montane pine oak forests at elevations of 2500 to 3000 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with a divergent, horizontal, attenuate rhizome giving rise to 1 to 2, deciduous, plicate, absent at flowering, ovate-elliptic, acute-apiculate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the spring before the leaves appear, on a lateral, racemose, 8" [20 cm] long, subcapitate, short, dense, to 6 flowered inflorescence provided with imbricate, tubular sheaths and has almost as long as the ovary, broadly ovate,lanceolate to subligulate, acuimnate floral bracts and carrying resupinate, showy, softly sweetly fragrant flowers.
