Common Name Cogniaux's Habenaria [Belgian Botanist in Brazil late 1800's- early 1900's]

Found in Colombia and Ecuador at elevations of 2000 to 2900 meters as asmall sized, cold growing terrestrial with 2 to 3 just above the base, in a rosette, elliptic to ovate-elliptic, acute to obtus, the uppermost conspicuously smaller, sessile leaves with an erect, remotely sheathed, stem with the sheaths rather loose fitting, that blooms in the spring on an erct, loosely several flowered inflorescence wih ovate-lanceolae, acuminate, as long a to shorter than the ovary floral bracts.

Similar to H distans, H herminioides, and H millei which all have a basal rosette of leaves
