Found in the western Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, India, Nepal, Myanamar, Thailand and Vietnam in forests at elevations around 375 to 1300 meters as a large sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial orchid with ellipsoid tubers giving rise to a stem with 2 to 3 loose sheaths and carrying, scattered, oblong-lanceolate, acutem margins pale to white leaves that blooms in the later summer and early fall on an erect, 4 to 8" [10 to 20 cm] long, laxly many flowered racemose inflorescence
