Found in the Lesotho, Swaziland, Cape Provine, Natal, Orange Free State and Transvaal South Africa in well drained grasslands at elevations of 150 to 2450 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with numerous, suberect, cauline, lanceolate, acute leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, lax to dense, to 24" [60 cm] long, numerous [20 to 70] flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute glandular pubescent floral bracts
