Found in Assam, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, China and Vietnam at elevations of 1500 to 1850 meters as a medium to large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with a globose-fusiform tuber giving rise to a stout, scurfy stem with 4, clustered on the lower third of the stem, broadly elliptic to oblanceolate, acute, petiolatebase leaves and broadly lanceolate to lanceolate, acuminate sheaths above that blooms in the late summer on an erect, laxly many flowered, scurfy, 3.2 to 8.4" [13 to 21 cm] long inflorescence
