Found in Chinese Himalayas, the western Himalayas, Assam, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Myanamar, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Taiwan and the Ryukyu Islands in quercus forests and beside roads at elevations of 200 to 2050 meters as a medium to large sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with fusiform tubers giving rise to a thick stem that is sheathed below to the middle and bracteate above the 5 to 8, ovate-lanceolate, acuminate, shortly petiolate base leaves that blooms in the summer and early fall on a glabrous, 2 to 6.4" [5 to 16 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with membraneous, narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, three veined floral bracts.
