Found as a rupicolus Laelia growing directly on rocks in small cracks and crevasses as a miniature sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte with small, globose pseudobulbs carrying a single, apical, stiff, coriaceous, ovate-lanceolate, acute leaf and blooms in the spring on a terminal, erect, 8 to 10" [20 to 25 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence.
Distinguishing characteristics of this species is the shorter to just barely longer than the leaf inflorescence and the column that is markedly broader at the base and flowers arise in the spring
