Found in north Fujian China, Japan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan and Thailand in damp areas of tropical evergreen hill forests at elevations of 400 to 1000 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing, mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with an ascending ligneous, scaly rhizome giving rise to an erect, blackish, slender, often branched stem with several remotely spaced sheaths that blooms in the later spring and early summer on a terminal, 1.2 to 2" [3 to 5 cm] long, 5 to 8 flowered inflorescence
