Lepanthes cercion Luer & R. Escobar 1987 Photo by Werner Holzmann

Common Name

Flower Size

Found in Antioquia and Choco states of Colombia and Venezuela in cloud forests at elevations of 1300 to 2400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect ramicauls enveloped by 6 to 8 lepanthiform sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, elliptic, acute, abruptly narrows below into the base leaf and blooms in the spring on a short, held close to the leaf base, successively single, many flowered inflorescence.

CAUTION!!The flower in the second photo is most likely not L cercion but it is similar, the real L cercion does not have hairy margins on the sepals and the real flower is much more narrow and elongate and does not have a mid point projection on the petals. The leaf is exacly the same but the inflorescence is not held as close to the leaf tip in the real L cercion.
